About Us
Miller’s Pottery is our small family ceramics studio located in beautiful Melbourne, Australia;
Our pottery is crafted and glazed by hand using gorgeous home-made glazes, creating unique and beautiful collections,
exactly the way handmade art should be.
In our studio we also share our love and passion for pottery with our students in small and intimate classes where students, even with no prior experience, get to experience the joy of creating beautiful wares out of raw clay.
How did it all start?
Turning our homely studio into a small business was a dream of ours, which we only dared thinking about seriously
during our road trip around Australia in 2014. There’s something about the freedom that only a road trip offers, reminding you of your dreams and passions, encouraging you to rethink your priorities.
Riding around Australia on our loyal red bike, we came across some amazing people doing some amazing things, but those
who impressed us the most were those chasing their dreams; a couple that we met early in the trip in Victoria, sold
everything they had in exchange for their motorhome. They don’t know where they will be next week – but they also don’t
care. They are chasing the sun. Another couple cycled across Australia and they are planning to do the same in all other 6 continents. Wow.
These encounters were a loud reminder for us that life is too short and too precious and that now is the best time to stop dreaming and start living. It reminded me of a funny (but true) quote I once read by Balthasar Gracian: “Dreams will get you nowhere, a good kick in the pants will take you a long way.” I guess this was the kick we needed.
So – how DO you start? After all, we all have so many dreams! – which one you choose? For us, the choice was pretty clear. Pottery is not only our passion, but also a way to express creativity and freedom. In a way – this is us fulfilling more than one dream at once.
The road trip ended and once the end-of-trip shock subsided, we started doing some serious thinking and serious planning.
It was obvious that Asaf, being the talented ceramics artist, will focus on the artistic side of the business, while I, being the more... let's say 'practical' person, will focus on the administrative and IT sides of the business which will allow me to keep my day job as an IT project manager and still support Asaf on his incredible journey. There were times when I am sure Asaf wished I would be a bit less project manager-y and a bit more artistic, but I promised him that at the end of the day, all my detailed spreadsheets would pay off.
So, we dived into it – Asaf experimenting with different types of clay and glazes to the point that our studio looked like the "mad scientist" lab... Chromium and Lithium and Silica and Cobalt and... well, Mendeleev would have been proud. Designing collections, recycling collections and redesigning them again.
Me? I was busy building the website, researching, accounting and even doing some pottery on the weekends to sooth my soul.
After long months of trialling, designing, building, recycling, researching and an average of 5 hours of sleep every night – we finally made it. The Studio was open, the shop was ready and our dream became a reality.

We will keep on learning, researching, trialling and working hard to make sure that we offer you the most beautiful and unique ceramics collections, over and over again.
